Bilingual church, CLRC updates & una boda?!

Last LAST weekend Wellspring had its bilingual service on Sunday morning. It was bien divertido to be up there helping translate passages, dialogue and songs for our latino friends that came out to the service. The sermon itself was done by a native speaker, so he translated it, which gave it even more meaning because he knows the colloquial way of saying a certain phrase rather than translating word for word. I love when multiple passions of mine collide - in this case it was with praising God and the beautiful Spanish language.

Last week we had a CIF board meeting that was the last one for us interns. They had a really special celebration in honor of us with food, gifts, story telling and the like. You may see me toting around a beautiful Guatemalan purse :) Devin & I gave the report for the CLRC and were involved in many discussions about some of the current issues at hand, such as the growth in non-immigrant users of the Center & our new discipline procedures. All of the questions that arose brought us back to our mission: reduce local tensions and make a community for immigrants. The question still remains of how we should be serving those who are not immigrants and would not regularly wait for jobs out on the corner.

Some good news?! We've recently received a donation of 6+ computers plus potential computer literacy classes for someone's eagle scout project! These will definitely be put to good use here. Another snippet of good news? The CLRC received a service grant that will help us with marketing and branding, something that the staff is not cut out to take care of on top of the center operations itself. We were one of four organizations who were chosen nationwide to receive the full grant, which is worth over $25,000 in services!

And now for some highlights of this past weekend, which was magnificent, emotional, memorable and simply perfect:
